Douglas 'Keith' Miller, age 70, passed away May 13, 2011, at his home near Hot Springs, SD.
Keith was born December 18, 1940 in Hot Springs, the 4th child and only son of Doug and Helen McGill Miller. He lived in Oelrichs, SD until the 7th grade when the family moved to Newell, SD where he graduated from high school in 1959. He joined the United States Army in 1963 and served until his honorable discharge on 12 November 1965. He took pride is doing a job well and was awarded "Soldier of the Month" several times during his tour of duty.
Aviation was Keith's passion. He took his first flying lessons in Newell and obtained all fixed wing certifications and helicopter ratings after he was discharged from the Army in Washington State. He worked for Boeing aircraft for several years which allowed him to be a member of the flying club. He enjoyed trips back to SD using the planes from the club. In 1974 he flew his fiancée Teresa to SD to meet his family. They were married in Seattle, WA on August 31, 1974.
Shortly after their marriage Keith moved his wife and daughter to the ranch in Oelrichs where they lived until the ranch was sold in 1976. The family then moved to Rapid City where Keith worked for UPS until 1988. The family moved back to Hot Springs where Keith worked a variety of jobs until becoming manager of the Hot Springs Airport in 2001 where he worked until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa; son, Kevin of Hot Springs; daughter, Bonnie (Joel T.) Rickenbach of Hot Springs; son, Andrew (Angella) of Grand Forks, ND; sisters, Marilyn (David) Johnson of Hot Springs; Marjorie (Wayne) Harris of Hot Springs; Donna (Dan) Perrett of Rapid City, SD; Janet Tifft of Newell, SD; Nancy Adrien of Manchester, NH; Carol (Robert) Harding of Edgemont, SD; eight grandchildren, Joel D (Alecia) Rickenbach of Ft Hood, TX; Ray Rickenbach, Philip Rickenbach of Camp LeJeune, NC; Grace Rickenbach of Hot Springs; Maddox, Avianna, and Lydiah Miller of Grand Forks, ND; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant sister Audrey Marie and his parents.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the Assembly of God Church in Hot Springs with Pastor Edwin Cutler and Pastor Peter Dahlberg officiating.
Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
A memorial has been established in Keith's name and will benefit Samaritan's Purse and Dr. David Jeremiah's Turning Point.
