Duane
McClure
d. Jul 5, 2026
Hot Springs, SD
The family of Duane A. McClure is deeply saddened to announce his passing on July 5, 2026. Born on August 8, 1947 in Hot Springs. Duane lived an amazing full and remarkable life. He touched the hearts of everyone he met through his sense of humor, genuineness and grit. He was proceeded in death by the love of his life, Trevia Buckly and many family members. He will be lovingly remembered by brothers Randy (Joan) and Gary (Jan). Daughters Lori (Red,) and Amy, grandson Parry. Three grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren (joined through Lori and Red’s marriage). Several nieces and nephews, cousins near and far. And several bonus children (the Tesch children, Stephanie Kapfenstien, and Teresa Perry), and cherished friends. And, Hank the Dog! A visitation will be held at Chamberlain McColley’s in Hot Springs, SD on July 13, at 1:00 PM.
McClure legend has it that as a youth he took off by horseback one day. He rode across the “Cone Place,” and knew it is where he wanted to live his life. College, jobs and life sometimes took him away, but he always returned. The land was part of his destiny.
He retired from the City of Hot Springs as a well certified Wastewater Treatment Supervisor and Manager. Duane was very proud to be a rancher. Sale days sometimes brought smiles; but calves frolicking in the spring always brought true joy. Through determination, he achieved his dreams of owning a Registered Polled Hereford ranch and was honored to have the Hereford Association visit his stock during an annual tour. Duane’s math skills coupled with stubbornness fostered another one of his life’s goals, water on Morrison Ridge.
He will be known for being one of a kind, quick with a story, fixing everything with baling wire. Souls in need found their way to him, for coffee, advice or a quick laugh. Strangers did not stay strangers long as he was always up for a conversation. His laugh would fill a room and his voice unmistakable.
Duane lived as he chose following his own course, values and needs. Self-proclaimed, “Crazy old guy in the bottom of the canyon. He was driven by his spirit and doing his best.
The family requests you consider a donation to your local 4-H Club in lieu of flowers.
