Dwight O. Bussmus, 58, of Hot Springs, SD passed away December 23, 2007 in his home surrounded by his family after a difficult battle with cancer.
Dwight was born in Mitchell, SD to Orval and Rita (Schelle) Bussmus on July 17, 1949. He graduated from Mitchell High School and went on to attend SD School of Mines and Technology.
On June 6, 1970 he married Joyce Hoven in Hoven, SD. They lived in Mitchell where they raised their family and spent 33 years with O.L. Bussmus Construction Company. In 2002 they moved to Hot Springs, SD to slow down and enjoy their lives in the Hills where they had always dreamed of growing old together.
Dwight was a member of the Hot Springs Knights of Columbus and Hot Springs Elks Lodge. He was a volunteer at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, where he was a liturgical minister. He was a past member of the Battle Mountain Road District Board of Directors and the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo Board of Directors. He loved to fish, hunt, and spend time with his family and friends. A loving father and grandfather, his family and their achievements were his greatest source of pride. He always had a smile for everyone.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Joyce of Hot Springs; daughter, Ranae (Randy) and granddaughter, Mya Beard of Ft. Collins, CO; son, Ryan (Holly) Bussmus of Boise, ID; mother, Rita Bussmus of Mitchell, SD; brothers, Ken (Deb) Bussmus of Mitchell; Gary (Cindy) Bussmus of Mitchell; sisters, Rosann (Howard) Legge of Rapid City, SD; Diane (Mark) Weide of Mandan, ND; Lanette Keifer of Rapid City; and Janel (Ron) Blotz of Deadwood, SD.
A Wake will be held 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2007 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs with Fr. Peter Kovarik officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
A memorial fund has been established in Dwight's memory.
