Obituary

E. Wesley 'Wes' Benton, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at his ranch near Edgemont, SD, surrounded by his family.

Wes was born January 28, 1935, the first son of Ed and Ethel Benton at the Edgemont Hospital. He was a true cowboy his entire life. He rode his horse across the river to Marietta Country School for eight years. Les upgraded to a 1936 Chevy Coup to continue his education at Edgemont High School. It was there that he met the love of his life, Elizabeth 'Betty' Lundblad in January 1950. Being the new girl in the school he decided right away that she was the one for him and he had no problem expressing those feelings to all the other boys in their class. After eighteen months of courting they expressed their love for each other and were married on May 18, 1951, in Big Timber, MT. Shortly after the wedding they moved to Wyoming were they ranched and he owned and operated his own trucking company. Their daughter, Linda, was born on February 4, 1953, a son who passed away at birth on July 19, 1958, and a son, Alan Wesley, on July 27, 1966. They moved back to Edgemont in 1979 where they have ranched for the last thirty-three years. Wes also mined, milled and helped with the cleanup and burying at the Edgemont Uranium mill. He enjoyed restoring old tractors and his 1927 Model T Roadster, which he built from over 100 prairie parts.

Wes is survived by his wife, Elizabeth 'Betty' Benton; daughter, Linda (Mike) Koopman of Edgemont; son, Alan (Anita) Benton of Cheyenne, WY; grandson, Chris Koopman; granddaughters, Michelle (Derik) Jones, Ashley (Aaron) Kuha, Amanda (Zach) Zarling, three great grandchildren, Hayden, Adrienne Elizabeth and Zoey; two brothers, Arthur 'Art' (Georgia) Benton of Sheridan, WY; James 'Jim' (Cindy) Benton and step-mother Verna Mae Benton.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and infant son.

A Celebration of his life will take place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2012, at the United Church in Edgemont with Rev. Peary Wilson and Dr. J. Edwin Coates officiating.

Stories of his life and a time of fellowship will be shared with a lunch at the Odd Fellows Hall at approximately 11:30 a.m.
