Obituary

Eben Winfred Streeter, age 97, of Buffalo Gap, SD, passed away February 22, 2016, at the Seven Sisters Living Center in Hot Springs, SD.


Eben was born August 12, 1918, to Harry H. and Mary Hazel (Parker) Streeter in Hot Springs. He attended the first eight grades at Eden Valley Country School, riding horse back after the first year. Eben graduated from High School at Buffalo Gap, and then attended Chillicothe Business College at Chillicothe, MO. He served three years in the Army during World War II, in Texas, Louisiana and France.


On October 6, 1946, Eben married Eva (Bayliff) Deeming and adopted her six year old son, Charles (Chuck) Larry Deeming. They made their home at 310 Pine Street, Buffalo Gap. Eben went to the ranch about 6:00 am every day, returned for dinner then back to the ranch until he returned for supper at 6:00 pm. Many hours were spent between 7:00 pm and midnight, digging the basement under their house in town. Eben was a member of South Dakota Stock Growers, National Cattlemen's Association, Elks, and VFW. He was town treasurer for thirty-five years, a member and chairman of the Southern Hills Hospital Board for several years. In 1973, he bought the Nolan Grain Elevator in Buffalo Gap and operated it for twenty years, selling it in 1993. He spent his remaining years working at his beloved Ranch.

Eben is survived by his son, Charles Streeter of Hot Springs; grandchildren, William (Cathy) Streeter of Johnstown, CO; Robert (Susan) Streeter of Stillwater, OK; Jennifer (Ed) Sarb of Billings, MT; Richard (April) Streeter of Bend, OR; their mother, Kay Streeter of Buffalo Gap; nine great grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; one nephew, Steve Streeter of Fairburn, SD; and one first cousin, Hazel (Bondurant) Krutch of Rapid City, SD.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eva; his parents, Harry and Hazel and brother, Harry Norman.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 26, 2016, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Interment will follow at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery near Buffalo Gap.
