Obituary

Edwin Charles "Ed" Hussey, age 68, of Oral, SD, passed away on November 14, 2016, at the Hot Springs VA Medical Center.

He was born September 25, 1948 in Denver, CO, to Willard and Lena Rose Hussey. When Ed was little the family moved to the Angostura Irrigation Project in Oral, SD, where he has lived ever since.

Ed enlisted in the United States Army March 1968. While stationed in Ft. Ord, CA, he met his future wife, Sidney. They were married January 29, 1971, and moved back to Oral in March of 1971 when Ed's enlistment ended. In December 1972 daughter, Jeanie Rose was born followed by son, Shawn in September 1976. Ed and Sid started ranching/farming with Harry Gorr in 1974.

Ed joined the Oral Volunteer Fire Dept. and became fire chief for many years. Ed and Sid bought the Stockmen's Bar and Cafe in 1986. This fostered many many good friends that he had till the day he passed. The Friday and Saturday dances that were held were legendary. Ed thought being a dad was pretty special but when he became a grandfather it was even better. He was never short of stories or pictures to show and tell. There wasn't many activities that those grandkids were in that he was not at. Rhett, Riggin, Montana Rose, Sid Grace, Jaxon and Joey Jae were very lucky to have Papa Ed. Ed thought his grandkids were perfect when Lathan the great-grandson was born he was more than perfect.

Ed was very active in the American Legion and was an honorary member of the Legion Riders. He could be found many Friday nights manning the fryer for the Rider Fish Fry's or making the mash potatoes for a special event.

Grateful for sharing his life is his wife, Sidney; daughter, Jeanie Rose; son, Shawn(Britt): grandkids, Rhett, Riggin, Montana Rose, Sid Grace, Jaxon, Joey Jae; great grandson, Lathan, brother in law, Rocky Jensen, nieces, nephews, and many many friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; mentors, Harry Gorr, Freeman Rapp, and Tom Norman: adopted son, Ronnie Hoff
