Elizabeth "Marie" (Ayres) Binney
was born October 12, 1923 at her Grandparents Clarence and Mary (Sailor) Stratton's homestead, on Carrol Creek Road near Pringle to William and Ethel (Stratton) Ayres, the oldest of five children. This is the same home her mother was born in. Marie grew up in the Pringle area attending varieous country schools and attended Custer High School. She married Harold Wheeler August 17, 1940 in Newcastle Wyoming. To this union four children were born Beverly (David) Morgan Pringle, Frances (Dan) Larson Custer, Ronald Wheeler (deceased), Harold "Sonny" (Phyllis) Wheeler Jr Custer. Marie took in laundry and worked at the Mica Depot in Custer. In 1956 Marie married Cecil Maxfield adding two stepsons Nolan (deceased) and Delbert (Carol) Maxfield. While living in Custer she was employed at Custer Cleaners. They moved to Rapid City where she was employed with SCI building computer components. Cecil passed in 1971. In 1973 Marie married Arlis "Buck" Binney of Belle Fourche adding two stepchildren Jon and Joanie. Marie and Buck owned and operated the 24hour Belle Truck Stop where she kept meticulous books and was active in multiple community organizations. Buck passed away in 1983. Marie moved to Rapid City in 1987 where she lived until 2004. Marie returned to Custer residing at Landover Estates where she was very active hosting and participating in activities. August 7, 2015, She moved to Custer Regional Senior Care.
On September 21, 2015 she went peacefully to meet her Lord and Savior with family at her bedside, she was 91.
Marie participated in the annual Gold Discovery Days pageant.
Marie was a member of the Liberty Baptist Tabernacle in Rapid City.
Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit Scotland, England, Ireland and Hawaii.
She taught her boys how to hunt and make jelly. Her grandchildren remember waiting for the ice cream truck to come by her house in Rapid City.
She was a wonderful seamstress and quilter. She will be remembered for her delicious pies and fudge.
Marie loved spending time with her friends and family and was always willing to play a game of cards.
She is preceded in death by Husbands Harold Wheeler, Cecil Maxfield, Arlis "Buck" Binney, a son Ronald Wheeler, a stepson Nolan Maxfield, a brother James Ayres, a sister Bonnie Woodford, her Parents and Grandparents.
Survived by 2 sisters Delores Cranston (Brookings SD) and Thelma Taylor (Wichita Falls Texas) 3 children, 2 daughters, Beverly (David) Morgan Pringle, Frances (Dan) Larson Custer, and a son Harold "Sonny" (Phyllis) Wheeler Jr Custer. 3 Stepchildren Delbert (Carol) Maxfield, Jon Binney and Joanie Binney. 13 Grandchildren Bob (Denise) Morgan, Terry (Laurie) Morgan, Don Morgan (Sharon), Carl Larson, Cathy (David) Sutton, Cindy (Darcy) Smith, James (Carol) Wheeler, Leonard Wheeler, Opal Florev, and Ronald Wheeler Jr. Scott (Julie) Wheeler, Jess (Jamie) Wheeler and Brenda Wheeler. 8 Step Grandchildren, Danny (Arlene) Maxfield, Neil (Angie) Maxfiled, Paula(Justin )Kruse, 27 Great Grandchildren, 8 Great Step Grandchildren, 8 Great Great Grandchildren, 10 Great Great Step Grandchildern, numerous neices and nephews.
McColley's Funeral Home of Custer is in charge of the services. A viewing will be Thursday, September 24, 2015, from 5pm -7pm at the Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be 10 am Friday, September 25, 2015, at the Mountain View Baptist Church Aviation Way Custer and is under the direction of Pastor Matt Furse and Pastor David Sutton. Interment will be at the Pringle Cemetery and a reception will follow at the Pringle Fire Hall hosted by the Pringle United Methodist Church, Mountain View Baptist Church and Pringle Volunteer Fire Department.
Memorials may be made to Pringle Volunteer Fire Department, Custer Volunteer Fire Department or the Mountain View Baptist Church Youth.
