Elmer Leland Brown, age 94, of Custer, SD, died Friday, February 27, 2008 at the Custer Regional Senior Care Center in Custer.

Elmer was born November 30, 1913 at Eddyville, NE to George and Cynthia (Lindsay) Brown. On December 10, 1936, he married Elfrieda Marie Lammers in Lexington, NE. He was engaged in farming and ranching in Dawson County, NE until 1953, at which time he and his family moved to Custer, where he worked at the Cimarron Lumber Company, the Newberg sawmill at Sanator, SD and the Morgan sawmill at Pringle, SD.

Elmer and his wife, Elfrieda, enjoyed gardening and maintained large vegetable and flower gardens, supplying flowers during the summer months for several Custer churches. He also enjoyed woodworking, a number of hobbies and he greatly enjoyed the outdoors. Elmer was devoted to his wife and family. He was a charter member of the Custer Lutheran Fellowship, and was a member of the Custer Community Church.

Elmer is survived by his two sons, Delmer Brown of Custer; Dennis (Betty) Brown of Roseburg, OR; son-in-law, Gerald Scott of Custer; one brother, Frankie Brown of Riddle, OR; grandchildren, Cynthia Bostrom of New Effington, SD; Dallas Scott of Newell, SD; Christy Weber of Tampa, FL; Amy Brown of Roseburg, OR and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elfrieda, who passed away July, 2004; daughter, Kathleen; grandson, Allen Scott; five brothers, Lloyd, Etsel, Charles, Ivan and Lester; five sisters, Thelma Bartel, Velma Lammers, Doris Loghry, Dorothy Jean Young and Lois Vollmer.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer, SD

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Custer, Community Church with Rev. Dr. Ray Schatz and Pastor Bill Savery officiating. Interment will follow at the Custer Cemetery.
