Elveria Serfoss, 78, formerly of Custer, SD, passed away on February 23, 2018, in Arizona.

Elveria M. Bartels Serfoss was born Jan. 28, 1940 in Winner, S.D., where she lived until she met and married James Serfoss, Sr., Nov. 28, 1955. The two moved to Custer, S.D., and had seven children: James Jr., June, Jerry, Jeffrey, Janette, Jay and Joe.

Veria lived a full, joy-filled life mostly in Custer and the Black Hills. She loved cooking, baking, fishing and crocheting. She loved spending time with her family and their children, especially at Pactola Lake. Her grandchildren's favorite memories of her include her famous homemade cinnamon rolls and going fishing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Sr.; children, Jeffrey and June; her parents; siblings, Arnold Bartels and Edlora Wolfe; and great-grandson Tyrell Rothleutner.

Elveria is survived by her children, James Jr., Jerry, Jannette Custer, May and Joe; siblings, Alvin and Leonard Bartels, Lucy Erhler and Loretta Sraw; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, Ryder James Serfoss.

Committal services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at Custer Cemetery, Custer, SD.
