Obituary

Estella May Miller, age 91, of Custer died December 7, 2006 at her home in Custer.

Estella May (Burns) was born January 21, 1915 at Pukwana, Brule, SD. To Frank Willie & Hazel Bell (Cummins) Burns. She attended county schools and attended high school in Pukwana, SD. She married Paul R. Miller on August 25, 1941 in Kimball, SD. They raised two daughters, Dorothy & Alice. Throughout the years Estella worked in peoples homes caring for families, worked at Hill Top Grocery, and at the Custer State Hospital as a cook. She cared for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Estella was a member of the Custer Senior Center, while at the center she enjoyed sewing quilt blocks and making cards. She enjoyed time with family and friends and seeing the county in her travels. She was loved by all that knew her.

She is survived by her two daughters; four grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, as listed by families, daughter, Dorothy (Homer) Baker of Custer, SD, their children, Rick and Kristy (Eston) Baker, their sons, Brandon, Chase and Brent Baker of Tea, SD; Mick and Ronda (Huber) Baker of Gillette, WY, their children, Douglas (Doug) Ispan of Rapid City, SD; Tiffany and daughter, Elizabeth Brand of Newcastle, WY; Justine Brand and daughter, Liela Paulson of Newcastle, WY; Britteny Brand and Haley Baker of Gillette, WY. Daughter, Alice and Robert (Bob) Kuchuk of Cape Coral, FL; their children, Tammy (Kuchuk) and Lawrence (Lonnie) Powell, their children, Steven and Jessiacal Powell of Cape Coral, FL., Phillip and Jennifer Kuchuk, their daughter, Leah of Cape Coral, FL; Christopher Kuchuk of Matamaras, PA; Brianne Kuchuk of Cirole Callegville, PA; one sister, Della Ince of Custer, SD; three brothers, Dale Burns of Santa Rosa, CA; Everett (Ann) Burns of Famington, WI; Floyd and Carol (Janet) Burns of Austin, TX; sister-in-law, Lillian (Miller) Powers of Kimball, SD; brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Miller of Kimball, SD and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Miller; six brothers, Clarence Burns of Pukwana, SD; Lyle Burns of Mitchell, SD; Lester Burns of Mitchell, SD; Lewis Burns of Omaha, NE; Ora Robert Burns of Pukwana, SD; Oren (Kennett) Burns of Mitchell, SD; two sisters, Alice Burns of Pukwana, SD; Elsie (Burns) Berkmeier of Custer, SD and great grandson, Tyler Ispan of Newcastle, WY.

Wake services will be held 7:00 pm, Monday, December 11, 2006 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Custer, SD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Custer, SD with Father Peter Kovarik and Deacon Greg Palmer officiating. Interment will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with Father Zandri officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the St. John's Catholic Church in Custer or the Southern Hills Hospice House.
