Evelyn Alice (Smith) Chard, 93, passed away November 17, 2017, at her home in Custer, SD.
Evelyn was born October 31, 1924, near Keystone, SD, the daughter to Ralph A. and Ethel (Wedgewood) Smith.
Evelyn attended grade school in Keystone and her family moved to Custer, SD, in 1937, where she graduated from high school in 1942. She went to University of Northern Colorado and graduated in 1947, with a degree in teaching. She taught school in California and Colorado. Evelyn married Raymond Edwin Chard on October 28, 1950. They were married for 60 wonderful years. They had 2 children, Jack (deceased, 2005) and Connie Wellington. Evelyn volunteered to many organizations and was a member of the Easter Star since 1944. She enjoyed traveling, reading and playing cards.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Connie (Rick) Wellington of Custer; daughter in law, Elizabeth; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; son, Jack; two brothers, Roger and Spencer Smith; sister, Mary Ellen Vejvoda.
Eastern Star Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 27, 2017, at Custer Lutheran Fellowship with Interim Pastor Pat Eidsness officiating.
Committal Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday November 27, 2017, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Custer Lutheran Fellowship Church.
