Evelyn Marie 'Evans' Murphy, age 88, of Hot Springs, SD passed away February 10, 2009, at the Prairie Hills Golden Living Center in Rapid City, SD.

Evelyn was born in Afton, IA on August 5, 1920 to George Beddose and Mary Viola Evans, the second daughter of eleven children. She grew up in the Hot Springs – Oral area of Fall River County, SD. She attended school in Oral. In her teen years she came to Hot Springs to work. On September 11, 1937 she married Thomas R. Murphy, to this union two children were born, Benny and Tom.

The family lived in Hill City from 1955 until 1963 where they had a Texaco Service Station; the remainder of her eighty-eight years were spent in the Hot Springs area. Evelyn served the American Legion Auxiliary as district president for four years, worked at the telephone company until they went to dial, worked at Penney's and also the Credit Union.

Two of her siblings survive her, Maryetta James of Keizer, OR; and Janet Porter of Edgemont, SD. She is also survived by one son, Thomas (Karen) Murphy of Hill City; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Tom and son, Benny.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 12, 2009 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 13, 2009 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Oral, SD.
