Evelyn was born August 5, 1926, at Manderson, SD, to Lawrence and Sadi (Speck) Cuny. Her parents ranched on Cuny Table and she attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse. Her teacher was Margie Twiss. Evelyn's parents were forced to move off their land on Cuny Table because the government took over the land and turned it into a bombing range. Her parents had to move to Hot Springs where Evelyn continued her education. On April 7, 1943, she married Carl Leslie Swallow in Manderson at the St. Peter's Catholic Church. Carl enlisted in the army and Evelyn moved with him where he was stationed at Ft. Leavenworth, WA. Her first job was working as a telephone operator, until she started working in a factory assembling airplane parts during WWII for Charley Rose Riveter Co. Their motto was "stand behind your man"
After the war Evelyn and Carl moved back to Manderson, where they worked on the Horse Head Ranch that belonged to the Pouriers, Carl's grandparents. They had three sons; Melvin Swallow of Cuny Table, Lawrence (Lonnie) Swallow of Red Shirt Table, and Lester Duane Swallow (deceased). They moved back to Cuny Table and helped at her parent's ranch. Evelyn went to work at the school teaching part time up until they had to move off the Badlands. They then moved to Buffalo Gap, SD, where Carl worked on the Angostura Dam as a cement finisher. After the untimely death of her husband Carl, at the age of only 32, Evelyn moved back home to Cuny Table, to be with her parents.
Evelyn married Joseph Price July 2, 1955, at Holy Rosary Mission. They moved to Omaha, NE. They had two sons, Leo Basil Price and Michael Anthony Price. They bought a ranch in Walgreen, CO. Later they sold the ranch and moved to Custer. In 1977 they owned and operated the Custer Floral and Gift Shop and stayed in business until 1992. Joe is living in a nursing home in Custer and Evelyn lived near Crazy Horse Mountain until 2012.
