Obituary

E.W. Roy Miller, 83, of Pringle, SD, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Rapid City Regional, Rapid City, SD surrounded by his family.

He was born April 26, 1932 in Marion, South Dakota to Edythe (Goering) and John P. Miller. He grew up on a family farm near Freeman, SD. He graduated from Freeman Academy in 1952. He dreamed of the cowboy life. He traveled from South Dakota, Colorado, and Arizona to Florida in pursuit of his dream. After a few years of working on various ranches, he returned to Arizona where he met his lifelong partner, Joyce Holmer who was from Minnesota. They were married in May of 1960 and moved to South Dakota, where they had four children. In 1969, he started the JR Bar Ranch Trail Ride business, and expanded it up to three locations and 75 head of horses. He retired in 1997, after 28 years in the business.

Roy was blessed with the amazing talent of poetry. A life time of experiences and travels were put to rhyme. He published five cowboy poetry books and has performed at numerous poetry gatherings and many special events. He loved to preform to anybody who would listen, even a stranger. He had many special people dear to his heart and he would create a poem especially for them.
