Floyd Merlin Livingston,
74 years old, Custer, SD
Born: November 4th, 1932 to Floyd & Alena Hansen Livingston
Died: August 19, 2007, Rapid City Regional Hospital
As a young man he was a corpsman in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict working as a medical corpsman at Ellsworth A.F.B. He attended college at S.D. School of Mines & Technology.
He established many lifelong friendships working for "Ma" Bell as a lineman, the Cleghorn Fish Hatchery, Boeing, installing Titan Missiles, S.D. State Highway Department, Duell's Sporting Goods, A&M Jewelers and retired from his favorite position as supervisor/counselor at the Youth Forestry Camp. Mr. "L" was a great role model and mentor and found much joy in seeing Camper's lives change for the better. He was a coach for Harney Little League Baseball in Rapid City and mentored many "kids" throughout the years remaining in touch with many of them.
On July 26th, 1975 he married Vera Guisinger (Eckert), the love of his life, his soul mate, and best friend. He always said it was the best thing he ever did and his seven children agree. His grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren always looked forward to any time with "Grandpa" they could have. He loved them dearly.
Floyd liked being close to nature, watching wildlife, hunting, fishing and had a fondness for horses and anything western. He enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends, and made beautiful ceramics and woodworking. Wherever he was he always made lasting friendships. He was caring, compassionate, patient, and was always there. He was our rock. He has gone into the Lord's embrace and we will miss him.
He is survived by his Wife,-Vera of Custer, SD. Three brothers,-Leroy (Maryann) Livingston of Phoenix, AZ; Harry Livingston of Osseo, WI; Clifford Livingston of LaCrosse, WI; One sister-Julia Hopper of Clyde, TX; Three sons-Larry (Jane) Livingston of Fairburn, SD; Rod (Jeanna) Eckert of Selah, WA; Randy (Debbie) Eckert of Yakima, WA; Four daughters-Val (Tom) Robichaud of Hampton, NH; D'Ana Livingston of Ft. Pierre, SD; Deb Eckert of Rapid City, SD; Darcy (Steve) Lockwood of Yankton, SD; Seventeen grandchildren-Charity Sybert, Mercy (Neil) Hague, Jessica (Jathon) Kline, Dain (Nichole) Livingston, Kari (Dean) Schreiber, Lacey Livingston, Mindy Livingston, Veronica (Arlo) Holsworth, Jody Lockwood, Adam Eckert, D.J. Eckert, Jennifer Lockwood, Ashlei Eckert, Trevor Eckert, Haley Eckert, Allison Eckert, Tyson Eckert. Eleven Great Grandchildren and Two Great-Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Two brothers, George Livingston and Eugene Livingston and One sister, Bonnie Olson.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, August 24, 2007 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer, SD.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 25, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Custer, SD, with Pastor Bill Savery officiating. Committal services will be 11:00 am, Monday, August 27, 2007 at Black Hills National Cemetery.
