Francis Wilber Davis, 86, of Custer, SD passed away Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, S.D.
Francis was born February 13, 1920 to Charles E. & Alvina (Dockweiler) Davis in Kaylor, SD. He graduated from Tripp High School in Tripp, SD. He married his beautiful wife of sixty three years, May 20, 1943 in Sioux Falls, SD. Francis enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army in March of 1942. He proudly served in the 357th Regiment as a combat medic in the European Theater during World War II. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant in September 1945.
Francis is survived by his loving wife, Anita of Custer, SD; son Richard (Charleene) Davis of Belle Fourche, SD; daughter, Donna (Jim) Lynch of Pittsburg, MO; sister, Viola (Walter) Rembold of Tripp, SD; special family friend, Dorothy Hirtle of Custer, SD; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; children, Joan M. Davis; Dianne A. Wareham; six brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2007 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer, SD.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Custer with Pastor Robert Anderson officiating.
Funeral Services will also be held at 10:00 am, Monday, February 12, 2007 at the Walter Funeral Home in Freeman, SD with Pastor Jeff Pautz officiating. Committal Services will follow at the Freeman City Cemetery near Freeman.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Francis' name to benefit Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Custer.
