Frank James Albright, age 99, of Edgemont, SD, passed away on April 24, 2015, at his home in Edgemont.
Frank was born on October 2, 1915, to Frank and Ella (Gilkey) Albright at the Albright homestead in Red Canyon. He received his education while attending the Red Canyon County School. While working for the CB&Q Railroad in 1942, he received his draft notice. He joined the Army's 345th Engineers Regiment where he served in Italy, Greece, Casablanca and Africa. After 3 ½ years was honorably discharged in 1945.
After moving to Central City, NE, he met and married the love of his life Viola Hagen. In 1950, they moved to Edgemont and took over the operation of the ranch. Into this union three daughters were born-JoAnne, Jeannie and Jerrie. He continued running the ranch along with mining uranium, building a telephone line up Red Canyon and was a supervisor for Dudley Township for several years. Frank had a genuine love for ranching and animals.
Frank is survived by his three daughters, JoAnne Pflaeging of Aurora, CO; Jeannie (Don) Coldross of Guernsey, WY; Jerrie (Tim) Alberts of Hot Springs, SD; sisters, Caroline Curl of Edgemont; JoAnn (Al) Thompson of Scottsbluff, NE; Darlene Willman of North Dakota; and numerous grandchildren.
A visitation will be held prior to funeral service.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the United Church in Edgemont, with Rev. Tom Peacock officiating. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and Hot Springs Veterans Honor Guards.
A memorial in Frank's name has been established to benefit the Edgemont Public Library.
