Obituary

Fred B. Foreman was born on September 17, 1922 to Bryan and Clara (Moyle) Foreman in Lead, SD and died October 24, 2008 at Custer Regional Senior Care in Custer, SD. He married Dorothy Degarimore in 1946 in Howard KS. They would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on December 29, 2008.

He graduated from Lead High School, Yankton College, and received a Masters Degree from Emporia State University in Kansas. He served in World War II in the European Theater as a combat engineer, including the Battle of the Bulge. He taught in high schools in Bonesteel, SD, Herington, KS, and for thirty years a chemistry teacher at Shawnee Mission North High School in Shawnee Mission, KS. He and Dorothy retired to his beloved Black Hills in 1984 where they built a home north of Custer. SD.

Fred was a member of Custer Lutheran Fellowship and was chosen a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary. Fred was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed hunting, cutting and polishing rocks which he carved and designed into jewelry enjoyed and worn by his family and friends. In retirement he started wood carving and went on to carve many different Santa Clauses. He was a quiet, gentle and loving man with a dry sense of humor and a twinkle in his eyes. During the last several months of his life, he was cared for lovingly by the staff in the Alzheimer's unit of Custer Regional Senior Care.

Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2008, and a Memorial Service at Custer Lutheran Fellowship at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2008 followed by coffee and fellowship.

Fred is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Custer; two sons, David (Sarah) Foreman of Liberal, KS; Bryan (Marylou) Foreman of Brementon, WA; one daughter, C. Jean (Stan) Younger-Brown of Indianapolis, IN; two sisters, Virginia Chaney and Blanche Ligrani both of Houston, TX; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles.

A memorial has been established in Fred's name to benefit the Custer Lutheran Fellowship or the Alzheimer's Association.
