Memorial service for Gail will be on Saturday September 30, 2023, 2pm at Southern Hills Bible Church at 144 N 6th Street in Custer South Dakota.
Gail Bissell, 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 21, 2023 in Spearfish, SD. Gail was born on November 28, 1951 in Torrington, Wyoming. She spent the majority of her life in Custer, SD, as well as several years in Wyoming, Montana and Kentucky. Family, her Christian faith, nature, and service to others were the most important elements in her life. Gail had a big heart, a warm smile, and delighted in helping others.
Daughter of Bill and Darlene Sager, Gail was the eldest of 3 girls, including middle sister Kerry and youngest, Billie. Gail was married to John Bissell until 1996. They raised their two sons, Ryan (42) and Andy (39) on a ranch in Montana for several years before moving the family to Custer. Gail returned to her hometown to oversee her family's multi-generational restaurant, The Skyway, carrying on the local favorite for many successful years. After retiring from the restaurant field, she served the community through her business, Kindred Spirits, a cleaning and cooking service.
Gail was always deeply moved by nature, and the landscape of the Black Hills. Her love of nature inspired her artwork: finely decorated buffalo skulls patterned with dried leaves, and other beautiful ornaments that were sold at local art shops.
A loving grandmother, Gail found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She was able to live near each set of grandchildren for a time during their youth. Being with them in their daily lives meant so much to her. Always one to make their favorite foods, and do craft projects together, she was cherished by them as well.
Gail will be loved and missed by her family, friends and community. She is survived by her two sons, Ryan (Tori) and Andy (Tara), sisters Kerry Stever and Billie Vigil, grandchildren Haven, Gideon, Cecelia, Cyrus, Cassius, nieces Kelly, Lisa, Jenny, Brenna and their children Wyatt, Waylon, Eliza, Olivia and Sophia. She was preceded in death by her former spouse, John Bissell (2013), and her parents Bill and Darlene Sager.
Memorial service for Gail will be on Saturday September 30, 2023, 2pm at Southern Hills Bible Church at 144 N 6th Street in Custer South Dakota.
