Obituary

Gayle Martinez entered eternal life on Monday, August 5, 2013 at home in Murrieta, California. Gayle was born in Tampa, Florida to parents Jack and Maxine Harvey. She has one sister Jillian. They were raised near Ponce de Leon and graduated high school there. Gayle joined the United States Army and while enlisted, met the love of her life, Mike Martinez. They were married on June 6, 1977 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida and made their home together at Fort Rucker, Alabama. They have lived all over the map, sometimes stationed together or apart with their military careers. They have resided in South Korea; Fort Carson, CO; Ft. Jackson, SC (where Gayle was a Drill SGT); Germany; Fort Riley, KS; White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico; San Diego, CA and for the past 7 years Gayle and Mike have called Murrieta, CA home.



Gayle has a bachelor's degree in English and a Master's Degree in Software Engineering. Following her military career, she went to work as a technical writer in the Defense Industry. She has worked for Loral, Cubic Corp, and Qualcomm. In her spare time, she was a voracious reader and wrote avidly on her computer. She liked to smile and laugh. She enjoyed comedy shows like 'I Love Lucy' as well as liking Horror Films. Gayle liked heavy metal rock music like Black Sabbath and Metallica. She and Mike enjoyed traveling together. They shared a memorable 25th Anniversary in Hawaii and have lived in Germany and toured Europe, visiting Austria, Spain, Italy, England, France and Switzerland.

Gayle is survived by her husband of 36 years, Mike Martinez; daughter Christine Yvonne Martinez; son Francisco Diego Martinez; parents Jack and Maxine Harvey (DeFuniak Springs); sister Jillian Wolfe (DeFuniak Springs); 7 grandchildren Brittney, Katrina, Jocelyn, Gary, Christopher, Logan Joseph and Aerin Alexandra Gayle; 1 great grandchild Payton Kay; sister-in-law Litha Neiss; sister-in-law Doneen Morrison; brother-in-law Russell Morrison; and mother-in-law Cecilia Morrison.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD, with Rev. Morris Nelson officiating.

Interment will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
