Obituary

Geneva Geraldine Parsons, age 92, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away June 20, 2013, at Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs.

Geneva was born March 25, 1921, in Ardmore, SD, to Howard and Mary (Johnson) Converse. She graduated from Ardmore High School and married Vincent Wasserburger, to this union two children were born, Judith and Lana. Geneva later married James M. Parsons, to this union one child was born, Jeanne.

Geneva served with "The Gray Ladies" at the Veterans Administration in the 1950's. She worked as an executive clerk for Selective Service for 16 years, and was given a citation of excellence for her work. She was a former Hot Springs Council Member, and served as Mayor of Hot Springs from 1977 to 1980.
In 2002, she was selected "Senior Citizen of the Year" by the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce .

Geneva was very active in the community, she was a member of BPW, Democratic Party, Jededia Smith Corral of Westerners, Mammoth Site, Pioneer Museum, Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, MASH, and Springs Senior Center. She was a wonderful cook and supervised and helped create many fundraising meals at the Springs Senior Center.

She was a leader. She loved bringing people together. She enjoyed playing scrabble, doing word puzzles, and playing cards with friends at Brookside.

Survivors include her daughters, Lana (Larry) Mowry of Hot Springs; Jeanne Parsons of Hot Springs; step-sons, Robert (Veronica) Parsons of Bothell, WA; Butch Parsons of Coeur D Alene, ID; William 'Bill' (Patricia) Parsons of Spirit Lake, ID; three grandchildren, Toby Mowry of Hot Springs; Mike (Amy) Mowry of Redmond, WA; Jeff (Alma) Mowry of Gilbert, AZ; four great-grandchildren; Alison; Alex; Mischa; Porter; five step-grandchildren, Jimmy; Kevin; Angie; Lisa; Phillip (Malisa) and two step- great-grandchildren, Molly and Adam; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; daughter, Judith Haedt; parents, Howard and Mary Converse; brother, Floyd Converse; sister, Beatrice Wasserbuger; and former husband, Vincent Wasserburger.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2013 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Pastor Clint Walker officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.

Memorials have been established in Geneva's name to benefit the new nursing home fund or the Hot Springs Senior Citizens Center.
