Obituary

Genevieve G. Harris, 87, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away February 22, 2010, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Genevieve was born January 19, 1923, in Rushville, NE, to Thomas and Gladdis (Bruce) Mulcahy.

She attended rural schools in Sheridan County, NE and graduated high school in 1941 from Gordon High School. Genevieve was married to Oliver Harris in 1943 and they were married for a wonderful 65 years, in which she took great pride in.


The couple lived in Pampa, TX, while Oliver was in the service. After his return from overseas they farmed north of Gordon and then relocated to a unit on Mirage Flats until 1959. Then they moved to Hot Springs where Gen worked as a clerk and a homemaker.


She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church. She was a member of OWLS. She and Oliver were presented with a Statewide Outstanding Tree Farmer Award in 1993.


She enjoyed quilting, playing piano, but her greatest joy was teaching her grandchildren to cook. She and Oliver also enjoyed traveling, visiting relatives, and camping.


Survivors include sons, Alvin (Dayle) Harris, of Buffalo Gap, SD; Leonard (Bonnie) Harris, of Gordon, NE; Tim (Pat) Harris, of Hot Springs, SD; sisters, Marilyn Harris of North Platte, NE; Lola Otte of Clinton, NE; brothers, Jim Mulcahy of Hot Springs, SD; John Mulcahy of Lincoln, NE; eight grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.


Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Harris; grandson, Jay Harris; granddaughter, Leslie Harris; great grandson, Zane Harris; three brothers; one sister and her parents.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2010, at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs with Pastor Jake Jacobson officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.

Memorials in Genevieve's name may be sent to the Bethesda Lutheran School in Hot Springs.
