Obituary

George Les Doughty, age 80, of Custer, SD, died May 28, 2009, in Reno, NV, while visiting his son. Les was born September 24, 1928, in Creighton, SD, to George and Esther (Hicks) Doughty and moved to Custer, SD, in 1937, where his parents ranched west of Custer. George served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and north China until 1947. Upon returning home, he worked for Black Hills Power and Light and in Igloo, SD, at the Black Hills Ordnance Depot.

George later attended Boyles Business College in Lincoln, NE, and was hired as a telegrapher for the CB&Q (Burlington Northern) Railroad until 1959, when he went to work for Boeing Co. George retired after 28 years of service and moved back to Custer in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ardith (Kitterman) Doughty; two brothers, Don and Dale; and his parents.

He is survived by three sons, Steven of Fallon, NV; Jeffrey of Aurora, CO; and Hobie of Custer; four daughters, Shelly of Rapid City, SD; Jewel of Warrensburg, MO; Kelley of Seattle, WA; and Valerie of Whidbey Island, WA; brother, Ray of Hot Springs, SD; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2009, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer with Pastor Bill Comfort officiating. Interment will follow at the Custer Cemetery.
