George Homer 'Grizz' Carr, age 84, of Custer, SD passed away August 16, 2008 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.
George was born May 11, 1924 in Rockford, IL to Homer Louis and Velma Marie (Sexton) Carr. George served four years in the US Navy during World War II and twelve years in the Navy Reserves. On June 26, 1946 he married Camilla Lois Geary in Peoria, Il. Following their marriage George and Camilla raised their family and farmed in Mt Carroll, IL and Shullsburg, WI. In retirement they moved to South Dakota living in Custer and Marion. Throughout his life George enjoyed time spent with his ankle bitters, curtain climbers and rugrats. In his leisure time George enjoyed the coffee shop, collecting of quarters and aluminum cans, fishing, hunting and time spent with friends that meant so much.
Grateful for having shared his life his five children, Camille Marian Voss (Duane); Clinton Carr (Shirley); Michael Carr (Karen); Rita Tillman (Jack); and Bonnie Carr (Greg), thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
George is proceded in death by his loving wife and parents.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer with Pastor Bill Savery officiating.
Committal will follow at Pringle Cemetery in Pringle, SD.
