The following is a celebration of the life of Georgia Freeland who died on June 8, 2007 in Spearfish, South Dakota.
She was born in Ortley, South Dakota on November 9, 1918, to James and Lena Tenny Conlin. She was raised in Keystone, South Dakota and shared many childhood adventures with her friend, Elsie Judson, as well as her sisters, Hazel, Helen, and Mary. Georgia then graduated from Custer High School in 1938.
Georgia met and married a young man by the name of Farrel Freeland in 1941. They raised four children, daughter, Jacke; son, David, and nieces Jean and Nancy. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Hazel and Helen, and two year old son, Jimmy.
Though small in size and stature, she had a big heart and enjoyed helping those less fortunate or in need of a helping hand. She was active in church and has a loving, caring personality. In her later years, she enjoyed visits with her grandchildren, drives in the Hills, and dancing with her companion and long time friend, Tony Torres.
Georgia is survived by her sister, Mary Boland; her children, Jacke Mitchel, Jean Elmore, Nancy Gausman, and Dave Freeland; her grandchildren, Roxanne and Toby Harley, Ann and Jessica Gausman, Jaime and Julie Elmore; her great grandchildren, Rachalle Burgos, and Miranda Routier; and her great great grandchild, David Burgos.
Our entire family is extremely proud of her. We love her and will miss her very much. She made this world a brighter and better place with her graceful spirit, giving heart, beautiful soul, and gentle strength.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the Custer Cemetery.
In place of a memorial, please donate to your local Hospice as they were so kind and helpful to our family.
