Gladys Rose Hallett went to join her Heavenly Father on November 22, 2007. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by family. She was born on November 29, 1914 to Blanche and William Distler at Oelrichs, SD. She spent her school years in the Oelrichs vicinity and graduated from Oelrichs High School. She later attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls and had a business degree.

Gladys worked for thirty five years for Fall River County. During most of this time, she served Fall River and Shannon Counties as Register of Deeds. Gladys married James D. Hallett. They farmed and ranched in the Oelrichs and Smithwick area. James preceded her in death in 1966. To this union, two daughters were born.
Gladys did many things during her lifetime. She did craft work all her life, embroidery, knitting, and crocheting. She especially enjoyed traveling to such places as Hawaii, Alaska, and all over the United States. She devoted her life to her family and lived to have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her most important role in life was to be a good and caring mother and grandmother. Both of these obligations she utterly fulfilled.
