Obituary

Gloria M. Long, was born on 5/30/33 in Canova, SD to Glenn Earl Truman and Maude Marie (Messmore) Truman. She passed away peacefully on 1/11/14 in Custer, SD.

On January 28, 1952 Gloria married William Alfred Long in Sioux Falls, SD. They resided in South Dakota until they relocated to Coos Bay, Oregon in 1983. Throughout the years, Gloria supported her husband in his retail ventures, volunteered for several organizations, worked as a cook, editor, and housewife. She had a strong faith, loved music and liked to play the organ and sing. She was an avid sports fan and was always up for a good bet. She loved to cook, to be busy and was always asking "what are we going to do next?" She lived a simple life and one of her favorite activities was a ride in the car eating an ice cream cone. After William passed in 2011, Gloria moved back to South Dakota where "her heart belonged." She had a competitive nature and was still winning the family card games over the holidays.

Gloria is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Terry and Darlene Long of Custer, SD; Trevor, Johnna, Taige and Tallen Long of Johnstown, CO; Trent Long of Bandon, OR; Tyg Long of Brookings, SD; Thomas Long of Bandon, OR and Gabriel Long of North Bend, OR; William, Marah and Tessah Long of Sioux City, IA; and Ann Long, Sally, Daniel and Rebecca Twentey of Locust Grove, VA; Ronald and Joan Truman and Dick and Jean Truman; and her sister in laws, Laverne Warren and Gloria Faye Truman.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband and friend of 59 years, William Long, her parents Glenn and Maude Truman and her siblings, Robert Truman, Sadie Tanksley, June Truman and Roger Truman.

Gloria will interred at the Graceland Memorial Cemetery in Howard, SD and the family will hold a memorial service in the spring. A memorial bench for both Bill and Gloria has also been placed at the Coos Bay Boardwalk in Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the Ecumenical Food Cupboard, P.O. Box 1028, Coos Bay, OR 97420.
