Grace Irene Duncan, 86, of Custer, SD, passed away on December 17, 2017, at the Custer Regional Hospital in Custer.

Grace was born in Pierre, SD, on December 27, 1930, to Bert and Grace May (Dunlap) Haverly from Onida, SD, the
youngest of nine children. Grace lived thirty nine years in the community of Onida graduating from Onida High School in 1949. Grace married William Terrell Williams (deceased) in November of 1949. To this union five children were born. Grace provided daycare at the big house by the railroad tracks, worked at the restaurant in Onida and managed Grace's Drive Inn on the northeast corner of the four corners in Onida.

Grace moved to Pierre in 1969, where she managed the Red Owl Restaurant, Kings Inn and the Falcon while obtaining her Real Estate License. She married Richard Duncan in January of 1977. Following her 50th birthday she parasailed in Mexico, learned to excel at skiing at Terry Peak and obtained her motorcycle license all in the same year. Grace became an avid sailor and captain of her beloved "PONCHO BLU" on the Missouri River for many years! Sailing with her husband Richard was her true passion. Her other hobbies included gardening, traveling, meeting people, love for music, singing, dancing, crocheting, knitting numerous sweaters for Richard along with hundreds of Christmas stockings for family and friends. As Grace and Dick traveled through life together they remodeled and built numerous homes in the Pierre area.

Grace was a realtor for Burke Real Estate for over twenty five years and retired with Richard to Custer in 2004.

Grace is survived by her husband, Richard of Custer; daughters, Jo Ann Clark of Oklahoma City, OK; Jeanne (David) Steffen of Burke, SD; Janet Carroll of Whitewood, SD; Peggy (Ole) Hoel of Devils Lake, ND; Sally Donald of Winner, SD; Lisa Duncan from Rapid City, SD; son, Doug Duncan from Luverne, MN; sister, Eleanor Johnson of Evanston, IL; fourteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Veryl Haverly; Burton Haverly; Norman Haverly; Carl Haverly; sisters, Shirley Jagen; Elizabeth Rupkalvi; Jean Trask; son, Michael Williams; step daughter, Sandy Yellow Robe; grandson, John Steffen; great granddaughter, Jose Hanson; and brother in law, Charles Arthur Duncan.


Memorial Services will be held 1:30 pm, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Living Outreach Church in Custer with Pastor Joel Ziolkowski officiating.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Spring Creek Resort and Marina, 28229 Spring Creek Place north of Pierre, SD.

As a memorial to Grace's strong love and devotion to Christ a memorial has been established to benefit the Outreach Program of the Living Outreach Church in Custer.
