Harold S. Arter, 86, of Oral, SD passed away April 22, 2008 at the Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs, SD.
Harold was born December 18, 1921 to Winfield and Nellie (Duncan) Arter in Mariaville, NE. He attended school in Rock County, NE.
Harold served in the United States Army during World War II with the 40th Engineer Operations in Sicily, Italy, France and Central Europe. On March 10, 1946 he married Yvonne Litz. They farmed in Newport, NE until the couple and their three children moved to Oral, SD in February 1956.
Harold is survived by his wife, Yvonne; two sons, Warren Arter of Ecru, MS; Michael Arter of Brookings, SD; one daughter, Carol (Bill) Case of Lakewood, CO; one sister, Donna (Gene) Nelson of Sargent, NE; six grand children; four great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one grand daughter.
Memorial Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD with Reverend Ed Coates officiating.
Committal will be at 2:30 p.m., Monday, April 28, 2008 at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
A memorial has been established in Harold's name to benefit the Methodist Church Custer/Fall River Parish.
