Harold Eugene Witte, age 58, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009 at his home in Edgemont, SD.

Harold was born November 1, 1950 in Hahira, GA to Earl and Bertha (Williams) Witte. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1968. In 1969 he attended Western Dakota Technical School. Harold entered the United States Navy in 1970, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1988. He met and married Esperanza M. Cancio, his wife of 35 years, in 1973 while at the US Naval Base in Olongapo City, Philippines.

Survivors include his wife, Esperanza of Edgemont; son, Jesse Christian Witte of Warren, MI; two daughters, Christina Chelak of Burlington, VT; Jennifer Lee Anop of Virginia Beach, VA; four brothers, Thomas (Colleen) Witte of Missouri City, TX; Steven (Nancy) Witte of Elizabeth, CO; Paul ( Theresa) Witte of Rapid City, SD; Rusty (Hope) Witte of Hot Springs, SD; one sister, Joyce (Larry) Williamson of Piedmont, SD; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wake services will be held from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2009 at St. James Catholic Church in Edgemont.

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2009 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Peter Kovarik officiating.

Interment will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 23, 2009 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD
