Harriet (Pazie) Cockerham, age 88, of Hot Springs passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on July 18, 2015, after her 11-month battle with cancer.
Survivors include daughters, Karen (Robert) Maggart of Lamar CO; Bonnie (Wayne) LaVigne of Huntington Beach CA; Lila (Mark) Wetzel of Westland MI; Janet (Bill) Atkinson of Hot Springs SD; sisters, Gladys Wolfe of Lemmon SD; Mavis (Jim) Clark of Keldron SD; Ella Mae Hausauer of Lemmon SD; Norma (Ralph) Weerts of Newton KS; grandchildren; Billy Joe Adams, Dinean Hammer, Tanya Adams, Michael LaVigne, Brian LaVigne, Jennifer Sanchez, Shannon Ballester, Brett Atkinson, 12 great-grandchildren; sister's in-law; Ida Bowker, Doris (Denny) Dyvig, June Daoust, Dorothy (Robert) Schuh, Donna Christensen, Sally Damm, brother in-law Donald (Shari) Pazie; several cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear and wonderful friends.
Harriet was born and grew up on a farm south of Morristown, SD.
She married Joseph Roy Pazie in 1950. Roy was employed at the Igloo Army Depot. He later transferred to Pueblo, CO, Army Depot, in 1956. After Roy's death in 1975, Harriet and Janet moved to Hot Springs. Harriet worked at the State Veterans Home until she retired in 1989.
Harriet married Frank Cockerham in 1983. Frank and Harriet enjoyed dancing, camping and playing cards. Frank passed away in 1989.
Harriet was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, Ladies Guild and Sewing Club, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and South Dakota State Employee's Organization.
Brett Atkinson was the only grandchild that Harriet had the honor of living next door to and watching him grow up.
Harriet's hobbies were quilt making, canning and making jelly for her many friends and relatives. Her favorite was chokecherry. Harriet taught her daughter Lila the art of making jelly, Lila then taught her daughters Jennifer and Shannon so they could carry on the family tradition. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She looked forward to going to the Senior Citizen Center for the monthly potluck after which they played bingo.
Harriet is preceded in death by her parents George and Gladys Leone Olson and her sister Mary Alice Meyer.
Viewing will be Wednesday, July 22, 2015, from 5:00-7:00 pm, at Chamberlain-McColley's Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at Bethesda Lutheran Church July 23, 2015, at 10:00 am, with Rev Gary (Jake) Jacobson officiating.
Burial will be July 23, 2015, at 2:30 pm, at the National Cemetery in Sturgis SD.
