Harry Junior 'Bud' Knisley, 88, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away January 3, 2010, at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home.
He was born August 15, 1921, in Hecla, SD, to Harry W. and Edna (Besse) Knisley.
Bud entered the United States Army on July 15, 1942. During WWII he fought in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Unit Award and the Bronze Star. On October 2, 1945 Bud married Marjorie 'Peggy' Mitchard in Bath Sommerset, England. After his discharge on December 1, 1945, Bud and Peggy made their home in Hot Springs, SD.
He loved hunting, fishing and being with family. He was a member of the VFW, DAV and the American Legion.
Bud is survived by his wife, Peggy; three daughters, Carol (Tim) Alford of Medford, OR; Candy Knisley of Hot Springs; Becky (Lonnie) Krause of Bison, SD; sister Jean Barber of Palisades, CO; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 7, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 8, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills with Pastor Peter Dahlberg officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010 the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Military honors will be provided by the South Dakota National Guard and the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established in Bud's name to benefit the Hot Springs Volunteer Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
