Harry Leroy Burdette, 72, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away January 21, 2018, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD, surrounded by his family.
Harry was born July 3, 1945, in Everett, Washington living most of his life in Hot Springs, SD. Harry was an active member of the Hot Springs Volunteer Fire Department and a founding member of the Hot Springs Ambulance Service. He was registered as an EMT (#123) in 1973 and worked for the City of Hot Springs in the 1970s. Later he would do any odd job he could find from building the restrooms at Chautauqua Park to teaching classes at the ambulance shed. Harry proudly served his community any way he could. Many would say if they ever needed the ambulance they wanted Harry on the call. The ambulance service honored him for 45 years of service after he retired in 2009. When he was not fighting a fire or helping with a medical emergency, he would be racing cars or in a demolition derby.
Harry is survived by his loving wife, Sandy of Hot Springs; son, Joel (Coreena) Burdette of Hot Springs, SD; daughter, Cynthia (Rusty) Chick of Centralia, MO; along with five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his mother, Wilma Kelleher.
A celebration of Harry's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at the Hot Springs Fire Hall in Hot Springs, SD. The family wish to thank you and invite you to a luncheon immediately following the service.
