Harry R McClung, 91, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away on August 18, 2017, at the Brookside Apartments in Hot Springs.
Harry was born June 2, 1926, in Beatrice, NE, to Guy and Pearl McClung. He moved to Oral, SD in 1954, where he did carpentry work for many people on the irrigation project. After Harry acquired his SD Electrical License, he did wiring. He farmed the Melvin Murray unit in 1958 & 1959. In 1961, he and Virgil Hobson built a block plant in Oral where they made cement blocks. He sold out to Virgil and went to Kansas in 1963, to build a house for a former Angostura farmer. Coming back to SD, he worked at his carpenter trade and later was employed lining irrigation ditches with cement on the project.
On February 6, 1965, he married Kathryne (Renz) Kazmer. He remodeled the building in 1971, making it into a home. In 1975, he farmed with his step son Dennis Kazmer and worked for Birdsall Sand Company as plant operator. He retired from Birdsall Sand Company in August 1991, and quit farming in 2000. He enjoyed spending time with his family, making stagecoaches, carpenter work and reading.
Survivors include his step son, Dennis (Linda) Kazmer of Oral, SD; two grandchildren, Beth (Scott) Lyon and Allen Kazmer (Leslee Colgan) of Rapid City, SD; two great grandchildren, Zoey and Zane Lyon of Rapid City, SD; and one sister, Mabel Carter of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryne; brothers, Everett and Edwin; parents, Guy and Pearl McClung.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Prairie View Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Johnsen officiating. Committal services will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Oral.
A memorial has been established in Harry's name to benefit the Oral Volunteer Fire Department.
