Helen Marie Brandt of Hot Springs, SD, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs, she was 94 years young.
Helen was born May 27, 1920, in Buffalo Gap, SD, to Thomas Wesley and Nellie Ethel (Streeter) Bondurant. Helen honorably served 2 years in the U.S. Armed Services. During this time, she served as a Staff Sargent overseas in New Guinea, Philippines and Luzon. Helen earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars, Victory Medal; Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, three Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal; Bronze Star Medal Go 185 AF45. She received her honorable discharge on November 2, 1945.
Helen is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard 'Dick' of Hot Springs; sons, Tom (Robin) Burrell of Goodyear, AZ; John (Cindy) Burrell of Newcastle, WY; sister, Hazel (Harlan) Krutsch of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Kristine Taylor, Jason Burrell, Sonja Stevenson, Shelley Goodrich, Lacey Burrell; and great grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, Adam, Ainsley and Liam.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Joe; Charles; Norman and sister, Martha.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 11, 2014, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Pastor Morris Nelson officiating.
Helen will be laid to rest at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, September 11, 2014, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts in Helen's honor be made to the Hot Springs American Legion.
