Obituary
Herbert John Stender, age 87, of Custer, SD, passed away on July 5, 2015, at the Custer Regional Senior Care Center in Custer.
Herbert was born on October 17, 1927, in Rockham, SD, to Henry and Dortha (Clark) Stender. He proudly served in the Army Air Corps in occupied Japan.
He was very active in community service and an avid supporter of the Custer Wildcats.
Herbert is survived by his son, Herbert L. Stender of Custer; daughters, Karlene (Dennis) Tacke of Sioux Center, IA; Lea Anne (Robert) McWhorter of Anchorage, AK; brother, Roy Stender of Custer; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2015, at the Custer Lutheran Fellowship Church in Custer, interment will follow at the Custer Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard and the Custer VFW Post 3442 Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established in Herb's name to benefit the Custer Lutheran Fellowship Church.
