Obituary

Herman Paul 'Buddy' Heck, 83, of Edgemont, SD passed away January 15, 2008 at the Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs, SD.

Buddy was born on the family ranch at Burdock, SD to Walter and Anna (Schmid) Heck on September 7, 1924. He attended the Burdock Rural school and taught himself to be a mechanic and thus was able to fix anything form a sewing machine to a tractor. He once made a harness for his dog and the dog pulled him and his red wagon all over the ranch. Buddy worked for the George Tubbs Sand and Gravel Co and he ranched near the family homestead with his brother, Buss until Buss passed away. On December 12, 1952 he married Mary Lou Kelly and they resided in Edgemont. They had one son, Larry, who preceded them in death.

Buddy served his Country in the United States Navy from July 28, 1944 until his honorable discharge on April 26, 1946. During his service he saw much action in the Pacific. He was on the US Cowpens when Peace treaty was being signed.

During his life Buddy was a member of several organization and also served on many boards, some of which include: the Fall River County Fair Board, Trustee of the United Church in Edgemont, The Sportsman's Club and he was a member of the American Legion. Buddy enjoyed sports and always had a joke or two. Along with his cooking, he loved ranching and riding horseback.

Grateful to have shared his live are his sister, Doris Seabeck and husband Tom of Casper, WY; as well as special friend, Carolyn Fines of Edgemont.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2008 at the United Church in Edgemont.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2008 at the United Church in Edgemont with Rev. Floyd Mills, Rev. Norma Mills and Rev. Marion Gray, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery near Edgemont.
