Hunter Jacob Lewis, formally of Custer, SD, died Saturday, July 12th, 2014, in Gillette, WY.
Hunter was born October 24, 1998, in Rapid City, SD, to Eric and Shawn Lewis. He grew up in Custer, where his family had a home west of town. He attended school in Custer until his family moved to Gillette, in 2013. Hunter was an excellent student but did enjoy little trips to the principal's office in elementary school. Hunter was an outstanding athlete; he was very competitive, but always encouraged others. Hunter loved wrestling; he got this passion from his dad and older brother, and passed it on to his cousin, Forrest. He always strived to be the best he could be. Hunter was an avid hunter and spent lots of time hunting and fishing with his dad. He enjoyed the smell of hay warmed by the sun and the taste of sweet tea. He truly enjoyed haying with Bill Baker. Hunter was a hard worker and spent time working in Nebraska at his Grandma Berta and Grandpa Merlin's place; he enjoyed hanging out with them. He even enjoyed riding bulls every now and then. Hunter loved being "Unc" to his nephew Riley. He spent many great times camping, four wheeling, and just being with his family. Hunter was a great support to family and friends, always wanting to make people laugh. He delighted in teasing people to bring a smile. He was a best friend to all.
Hunter was preceded in death by his Aunt Shannon Reese.
Hunter is survived and missed by his parents, Eric and Shawn Lewis; sister, Erica Lewis, Gillette; his brother and accomplice, Casey Lewis; nephew, Riley Martinez, Casper, WY; grandparents, Mike and Colleen Lewis, Hill City, SD; Merlin and Roberta Kesselring, Crawford, NE; Ned and Sherry Reese, Arcadia, OK; Lon and Pat Garvey, Bending, MI; Aunt Faith (Bob Crisman) Lewis and cousins, Laura and Emma Zaic, Uncle Mike (Kathleen) Lewis, cousin and best bud Forrest Lewis, cousins, Grace, Anna, Jonathan, and David Lewis all of Custer, SD, Uncle Rusty (Jennifer) Lewis and cousins Eric and Katie Lewis of Newcastle, OK; Aunt Heather Reese, Longmont, CO; cousin, Erinn Coleman, Edmond, OK; special friend, Bill Baker and many numerous friends.
Services will be held Thursday, July 17, 2014, 10 am, at the Custer Lutheran Fellowship in Custer. A memorial has been established for the Hunter Lewis Memorial Scholarship.
