May 28, 1947 – April 13, 2021
Michael was born May 28, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to Hot Springs in 1965. In the Spring of 1966, for the love of country, he joined the U.S. Army. He served six years in the Army, one year in Korea and three years in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1972. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantryman Badge. He was also awarded other commendations for his leadership abilities, some for courage under fire. After his military service he returned to Hot Springs and worked various jobs, which included twenty-five years with the BNSF Railway Company, in which he retired from.
Michael will be remembered by friends and family as a man who faced some of life's toughest challenges with intelligence and humor.
He leaves behind his loving daughter, Adree; her three children, JayLinn; Maddox; Xander; one brother, George and two sisters, Diane and Kathy.
Those that preceded him were his father, Ira Rhea Bourland; his mother, Peggy Margaret (Whitford) Bourland Winterrowd; and the greatest love of his life, Squeak.
Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2021, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD with Reverend Dr. Martha Beck officiating.
Committal Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2021, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD, with full military honors.
