Irene Edna Salverson, 86, of Hot Springs, SD passed away January 11, 2008 at the Rapid City Regional Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City, SD.
Irene was born August 8, 1921 in Anamoose, ND to Robert and Elizabeth (Roder) Buchholtz. She graduated from Mobridge High School in 1939 and then went on to secure her nursing degree from Presentation School of Nursing in Miles City, MT in 1945. Irene began her career in the old Railroad Hospital in Mobridge and then went on to work at the new hospital in Mobridge after it was built. On May 19, 1947 she married Richard H. Salverson in Pierre, SD. She became the first nurse hired at the Good Samaritan Center in Selby. After the Mobridge nursing home was built, she moved back to Mobridge to continue her career. In 1976 Irene relocated to Hot Springs and worked in the Veterans Administration Medical Center until her retirement in 1992.
Irene was active in the St. John's Lutheran Church and the Hot Springs Senior Center. She was also a big supporter of the Hot Springs Meals on Wheels program.
Irene is survived by four sons, Richard 'Dick' (Jeanette) Salverson of McKinney, TX; Robert 'Bob' (Marla) Salverson of Gillette, WY; Thomas Salverson of Hot Springs; Steven Salverson of Pierre, SD; three daughters, Karen Paremski of Issaquah, WA; Susan (Chris) Jaeger of Rapid City, SD; Carolyn (Vernon) McKenney of Hot Springs; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at McColley's Chapels of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church near Maverick Junction east of Hot Springs with Pastor Kevin Clark officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
