Obituary

Jacklyn Dean Martin "Jackie" passed away on January 26th 2025. She was born in Rapid City, SD, March 5, 1942 to Willa "Billie" and Harry Ohrtman.

She graduated from Rapid City High School and was married to Charles Martin "Chuck", shortly after she graduated. She and Chuck went on to have three children. They moved to Colorado Springs where they raised their children and enjoyed church activities that connected them to a group of friends that became like family.

Jackie was known for her strength, joy of life and love of family. After her children were raised she found love and new adventures when she met and married Harvey Martin. They shared over 25 happy years working together, spending time with family and traveling in their RV.  They retired in Hot Springs, SD in 2010.

Jackie was hardworking and creative. Jackie worked nights as a nurse's aide when her children were young. Willing to take a risk and try something totally different, she began a career in sales at a wholesale flower shop and quickly became the top selling sales person. Eventually she started her own very successful wholesale flower business. Her creativity really shined in her homemaking and gardening. When her children were young, even when resources were tight, she managed to make her home beautiful. She had a knack for remodeling and could always see the potential in a house. The same could be said of gardening. Together Harvey and Jackie took landscaping to a whole new level.  Their home in Hot Springs won the 2019 best of garden and landscape in the community. They also adopted a couple downtown Hot Springs garden pods and took pride in participating in the Keep Hot Springs Beautiful organization.

Family members and friends will miss Jackie's optimistic, joyful and loving presence. She inspired many with her ability to weather many of life's storms and find happiness and adventure. We will miss her smile, the twinkle in her eyes and her unconditional love and support.

Jackie is survived by her children, Shellie Greto (Jim), Chuck Martin (Debbie), seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Sisters, Sheri Dunn, Linda Grimson, Mary Ewert, Barb Wagner, Kay Vincent and Colleen Ohrtman. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Martin, son Christopher Martin, Brothers, Teri Ohrtman, Harry Ohrtman Jr. and parents Willa and Harry.

A celebration of life will be held at Black Hawk Community Church, February 7, 2025, at 4pm. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs, SD.
