James Herbert 'Jim' Jones of Hot Springs, SD, passed away October 15, 2010, at the Veterans Medical Center in Hot Springs after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 75.
Jim was born January 12, 1935, in Sioux City, IA; he served his country in both the active Army and reserves, and Korea for eight years.
Jim loved the outdoors and animals, owning various farms in Oregon. He never stopped learning, was an avid reader, farmer, wood worker, and writer. He had a particular interest in sheep and raised cattle. For many years he worked as a supervisor at Teledyne Wah Chang, a rare metals plant in Albany, OR. He moved to Rapid City, SD, and spent his past 10 years in Hot Springs, SD, where he worked for RC Springs, served with Community Action, and became a licensed master locksmith. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by three children, William (Patricia) Jones, Eau Claire, WI; Kristi (Curt) Stutzman, Albany, OR; David Jones, Lebanon, OR; five grandchildren, Joel & Rachel Stutzman, Sean, Steven, and Sterling Jones; and one great grandchild, Cade Jansen, as well as aunts and many cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD, with a short memorial service to be held at 7:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 21, 2010. at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
