Obituary

James Paul 'Jim' Nighswonger, age 86, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away January 17, 2008 at Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs.

Jim was born June 12, 1921 to Floyd Marion Nighswonger and Violet Anna Johnson in Banner County, NE.

Jim served in the US Army as a Communications Tech during WWII. On September 5, 1946 he married Joyce Hottell. Jim ranched and farmed for many years in Smithwick, SD. After retirement he and Joyce traveled and lived in various states finally returning to live in Smithwick until his final move to Castle Manor in Hot Springs.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce Nighswonger of Hot Springs; son, Clemence 'Clem' (Lea) Nighswonger of Wasilla, AK; two daughters, Sharon (Steve) DeBoer of Hot Springs; Gwendolyn (Ivan) Kettterer of Box Elder, SD; two sisters, Ethel Hottell of Craig, CO; Mary (Guy) Grubbs of Scottsbluff, NE; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter; two brothers, John and Lloyd; two sisters, Florence and Edna and three infant siblings.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at McColley's Chapel in Hot Springs with Duane Hettick and Mike Henry officiating.

Interment will follow at Smithwick Cemetery in Smithwick, SD

A memorial has been established in Jim's name to benefit the Gideons Memorial Bible Program.
