James Garland Thompson, 84, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away January 14, 2016, at the Pine Hills Retirement Community in Hot Springs.
James was born April 27, 1931, in Brentwood, CA, to James and Eunice (Waller) Thompson. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954.
James was a loving husband, father and grandfather, with an amazing sense of humor, a generous and loving heart and a beautiful soul. James was a member of the American Legion. He served as a heavy equipment mechanic/welder with Local #9 Operating Engineers in Colorado for 50 years. He loved car racing, especially NASCAR.
James is survived by his wife, Brigitta of Hot Springs; sons, James W. (Marlina) Thompson of Lochbuie, CO; John (Amy) Thompson of Castle Rock, CO; daughter, Stacey Thompson of Lakewood, CO; step-daughters, Jennifer (Rodney) Watts of Hot Springs, SD; Cyndi Clemens of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Matti (Hank) Voth of Carson City, NV; ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Committal services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
