James Albert Williams passed away peacefully, on June 13, 2026, at his home on his ranch east of Buffalo Gap, SD, surrounded by his family. He died from complications of cancer. He was under the care of Stillwater Hospice of SD with special care from nurse Connie.

James was born in Hot Springs, SD, to parents, Albert and Mary B. Williams, on July 18, 1937. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1956 and in later years graduated from Chadron State College with a BS in Industrial Arts. He served in the U.S. Army, 1958-1959, serving 18 months in Germany. Jim spent his leave time by traveling throughout Europe.

Jim earned his private pilot license starting with lessons in high school. He loved flying even though he was afraid of heights. He owned a Cessna 152 for several years taking family and friends for a ride. Jim also loved to water and snow ski with family and friends.

Jim spent most of his working years in Wyoming, mainly as a diesel mechanic at the Caballo Rojo Coal Mine by Wright, WY.

James married his wife, Mary O’Malley, on February 7, 1966. To this union was born 4 children, 1 daughter and 3 sons.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary B. Williams, sister, Catherine (Jack) Bloom and Mary H. Bruce.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Mary Catherine (Gregg) Lynch; sons, Thomas Leo (Ryna) Williams; James Mathias Williams and Sean Joseph Williams; grandchildren, Catherine; Bradley and Jason Williams; brother-in-law, Art Bruce; nephews, Jim; Tim; Peter and Michael Bloom.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the Battle Mountain Humane Society in Hot Springs, SD.

Christian Funeral Vigil will be held 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs, SD.

Christian Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2026, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs, SD.

Christian Funeral Committal will be held 9:00 a.m., Monday, June 22, 2026, at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
