Janice Marie Flyte, 72, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away January 15, 2010, at the Pine Ridge Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD.
Janice was born June 14, 1937, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Herman and Eleanor (Collier) Kirkvold. She graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, and Stewart Cosmetology College. She moved to Hot Springs in 1957. In 1959 she married John Flyte, to this union four children were born.
She retired from the Hot Springs Veteran Administration in 1997, after working in Dietetics for 20 years. She also did janitorial work at the Evans Plunge for 30 years.
Janice was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church. She was a loving mother with a wonderful sense of humor, caring, giving, and considerate of all others.
Janice is survived by her two sons, Jonathan Flyte of Hot Springs; Greg Flyte of Hot Springs; two daughters, Jody Stanley of Hot Springs and Karen (Terry) Bergen of Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada; two brothers, Douglas (Mary) Kirkvold of Sioux Falls, SD, Rick Kirkvold of Sioux Falls, one sister, Kathy (Neal) Hoyme of Pierre, SD; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills with Pastor Morris Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery near Oral, SD.
A memorial in Janice's name has been established to benefit the Hot Springs Community Action.
