Obituary

Jennie M. Kocer passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010, at Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs, South Dakota at the age of 99.


Born March 1, 1911, to Art and Mabel Petty, Mrs. Kocer spent her younger years on her parent's ranch, in Red Canyon, near Edgemont where she completed grade school in a country school, and high school in Edgemont. She was valedictorian of her class. She later moved to Hot Springs where she worked for her dad as deputy sheriff, and at the local bank and for a law firm.

She married James "Duke" Kocer on September 5, 1937, in Deadwood, South Dakota, a union of 65 years until his death in January of 2003.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Kocer and his wife Nancy, of Custer, South Dakota; and Jim Kocer and his wife Ruby, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; four grandchildren: Stephanie (Shawn) Marsh, Joe (Andrea) Kocer, Jaymie and Jacque Kocer; and one great grandson: Daxton Joseph Kocer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 24th, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Hot Springs with Father Claude Vershure officiating.

Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 24th, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established for Jennie at the South Dakota Veterans Home in Hot Springs.
