Jerry Allen Speaect, 66 of Oral, South Dakota, passed away Friday, August 19th at the Golden Living Center in Pierre surrounded by the love of his family.
Jerry was born May 19, 1950 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Albert and Rose (Vogel) Speaect. He grew up in a loving family with three siblings: Albert Gene, Linda, and Kathy. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1968. Jerry married Donna Rahn in 1969. They had one son, Mark. On December 21, 1974, he married the love of his life, Anna Hannan. To this union were born four children: Jeffrey, Lori, Christopher and Jennifer. He spent many years of his life painting while also working alongside his father at Al's Signs. As his father aged, the sign company became Jerry's primary focus, and he continued to operate it after Al passed away in 2000. Jerry had a zest for life that included a love of the outdoors. Beginning in his childhood, he developed a passion for hunting and fishing. From frogs and chipmunks to deer and turkeys, he could often be found with a trap, gun, or fishing pole in his hand. Jerry was dedicated to spending time with those he loved. He took full advantage of that time by loving, laughing and infamously pranking those he loved the most. He enjoyed music and sharing a silly song with his nieces and nephews, entertaining a crowd with a favorite karaoke tune or sharing special music at church. As his health declined and he was unable to do many of the things he had enjoyed, his grandchildren became his greatest treasures. His greatest treasure of all; however, was received when he met his Lord and Savior face to face this past Friday morning.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife Anna of Oral, mother Rose of Pierre; children, Mark Speaect of Arizona, Jeff (Wendy) Speaect of Pierre, Lori Speaect of Oral, Chris Speaect of Pierre, and Jenny (Eddie) Druce of Hermosa; his grandchildren, Lacey, Kaden, Alexis, Emma and Sadie; sisters, Linda Perales of Casper, WY and Kathy (Bruce) Ziebarth of Miles City, MT; sisters-in-law, June Speaect of Aurora, CO, Barb (Brad) Reif of Florissant, CO and Teresa White of Rapid City; brother-in-law, Bob Hannan of Pierre and a host of beloved aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
