John Daryl Curl, age 82, of Edgemont, SD, passed away October 8th 2018, at Custer Regional Senior Care Center, in Custer S.D.

John was born June 9th, 1936, in Hot Springs, South Dakota, to Barnett and Caroline (Albright) Curl. His entire 82 years of life was spent in and around Edgemont S.D. He attended Edgemont schools, played football, and had a deep love of ranching and animals. He met the love of his life and married Dorothy Margret Curl on January 25th, 1959. From their union came 5 children.

John's life was not without struggle. In the first year of marriage they lost their 1st born child, David. Later in 1965, John lost his arm in a work accident. Many considered him to be disabled at this point, but John persevered. He often worked harder than people blessed with two arms. Through the years he had many jobs along with his ranching. His only goal was to support his wife and raise his children. He was a proud man, preserved with the love of his family and friends.

Survivors include sons, Everett (Trina) Curl of Hill City, SD; James Curl of Edgemont, SD; John (Karalee) Curl of Lehi, UT; daughter, Cyndie (Dave) Strawn Douglas, WY. Also surviving is his mother Caroline Curl, Edgemont, SD and sister Mary (Floyd) LePoidven, Miles City, MT, as well as a host of others.

John was graced with eight grandchildren, Chad Smrstick, Erik Strawn, Johnny Curl, Brandon Smrstick, Jake Curl, Ashley Smrstick, Haylee Curl and Dustin Curl. His great grandchildren include Chelcie Strawn, Brady Strawn, Landon Smrstick and Jaxon Smrstick.

He was a fine example of selflessness and love. Johns life was a blessing to all who knew him.  He will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 13th 2018, at the St. James Parish Hall in Edgemont, SD. Reverend Floyd LePoidven will officiate. Interment will follow at Edgemont Cemetery in Edgemont, SD.  There will be a gathering afterwards at the St. James Parish Hall for a luncheon.
