John Hewitt 'Jack' Raben, age 82, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away March 11, 2016, at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs.
Jack was born February 20, 1934, in Akron, IA, to Lyle and Olive (Akers) Raben. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He was fortunate enough to have two great loves in his life that both preceded him in death. He was married 39 years to Betty J. (Tisdale) Raben, who passed away in 1995, then married Vernice J. Salmon who passed away in 2009. Also proceeding Jack's death was a daughter, Tracy M. Raben.
Jack is survived by his son, John (Gaylene) Raben, II, of Ft. Collins, CO; daughters, Vicky (Terry) Krause of Rapid City, SD; Barbara (Kraig) Moen of Rapid City; brother, Tim (Karen) Raben of Rapid City; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2016, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs with Pastor Matt Lim officiating.
Interment will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Mt. View Cemetery in Rapid City. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy and the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 Veterans Honor Guards.
A memorial has been established in Jack's name.
